Synopsis

Course Learning Objectives: Participants in this course will be able to: Identify adult learning theories and consider the theories in professional development design. Create professional development that is aligned to Ohio’s Standards for Professional Development. Evaluate professional development for its alignment to Every Student Succeeds Act's (ESSA’s) criteria for High-Quality Professional Development. Evaluate and enhance existing professional development courses.

Course Overview

This course will provide the learner an overview of prominent adult learning theories while considering the implications of those theories on professional development practices. The Ohio Standards for Professional Development will be examined considering their application to high-quality professional learning. The course will examine the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and its six criteria of high-quality professional development. Learners will also have the opportunity to evaluate and enhance existing courses to meet the standards of high-quality professional development.
