Educators will access self-paced course modules that include recorded lectures, video demonstrations, professional journal and article readings, and embedded practice activities. Educators will also apply knowledge and skills to practice during optional facilitated in-person learning sessions.

The essential content of structured literacy instruction will be examined: phonological/phonemic awareness, alphabet knowledge, sound-symbol relationships, decoding, spelling, reading fluency, vocabulary, syntax and reading comprehension. Educators will also understand the delivery methods that optimize literacy instruction and intervention: direct, explicit, systematic, diagnostic, and integrated. Educators will be able to identify the characteristics of dyslexia and use assessment data and error analysis to guide instructional planning.
This course consists of 11 content modules as well as a pre- and post-course assessment at the very beginning and at the very end. Each of the 11 content modules contains informational videos, knowledge checks, supplementary articles and a short quiz. Some modules also include videos demonstrating content application. Some individuals may be completing this course with the assistance of a facilitator.
