Pathway F: Science of Reading, Administrator Course

Synopsis

This course is developed to satisfy the professional development requirements under House Bill 33. It is designed to extend educator knowledge of the science of reading, including evidence-based language and literacy instruction, supporting students with reading difficulties, and instructional strategies for reading and writing. The audience for this course includes administrators serving K-12 students.

Course Overview

Each of the modules in this course covers a different topic associated with the science of reading. Modules include information via text and video, graphics, resources, and a response notebook to record notes and reflections.  

This course consists of three content modules as well as a pre- and post-course assessment, Background Survey, and Course Evaluation. 

Module 1: Introduction to Evidence-Based Language and Literacy Instruction, K-12: 3.5 hours to complete
Module 2: Access to Rigorous Grade-Level and Complex Text, K-12: 1 hour to complete
Module 3: Leading the Science of Reading: 2.5 hours to complete
Total: 7 hours
