EDCITE Customizing Instruction Course

This experience has been developed to provide a general overview of three aspects of customizing learning for students.

In this brief course we will…

• attempt to introduce you to three categories of instructional approaches for customizing learning experiences;
• explore several online, web-based tools that can assist in customizing learning experiences.

Our emphasis will be on tools accessible by Chromebooks. If a tool is usable on a Chromebook, other devices (tablets, laptops, desktops) can often use the tool as well. Many of these tools offer versions that will run on many types of devices. Chromebooks are also a focus of this course because of their prevalence in schools. 

Learning Objectives

• Identify three categories of instructional approaches for customizing learning experiences;
• List at least two free, web-based tools that can assist teachers in customizing learning experiences for each category;
• Explore at least three of the free, online tools to determine their applicability to your own classroom.

Course Activities

As you work through this course , you will need to complete the following:

1. Read the introduction material.
2. Exploration 1: Modification Tools- select one of the digital tools to explore for 5-10 minutes.
3. Exploration 2: Collaborative Tools- select one of the digital tools to explore for 5-10 minutes.
4. Exploration 3: Formative Assessment Tools- select one of the digital tools to explore for 5-10 minutes.
5. Course Review

Each of the "explorations" offers you a chance to become familiar with the functions of one digital tool. We encourage you to use this as a springboard to explore all the tools further and begin to apply digital tools in your classroom.
